Did Jesus Have a Girlfriend?: and Other Tricky Questions about Jesus
In this sequel to Does God Like Being God? John Honner explores contemporary questions about Jesus: who he was, what he did, and companionship with him in Christian life.
“Did Jesus have a Girlfriend? is a great question, one among many John Honner answers ably and well for teachers, catechists and parents faced with the often uncomfortable inquiries of young adults and teens. The book ‘unfolds’ doctrine rather than imposing it and is aimed at encouraging Catholics young and old to keep asking questions about faith, about Church, and especially about Jesus”
-Phyllis Zagano, Hofstra University, New York author of Just Catholic: The Future is Now
“Books that appear simple but keep revealing their depth are the most difficult to write, but John Honner shows us how it’s done. Did Jesus have a Girlfriend? is an accessible work from an erudite philosopher and theologian. The book is a pastoral guide to many questions people ask and offers rich imagery and practical examples that all sharers, pray-ers, preachers, or teachers can contemplate and use. Both challenging and consoling, its variety of uses and applications to our lives and practice of faith are endless.”
-Richard Leonard SJ, author of The Law of Love
Does God Like Being God? and other Tricky Questions about God
Does God Like Being God? And Other Tricky Questions about God is a response to many requests made by Catholic teachers, catechists, and parents for help in answering the tricky and often highly intelligent questions that children and young people ask about their faith. The book begins with four foundational chapters: “Can theology be made simple?”, “Why is the Bible important?”, “Is faith reasonable?”, and “Can expressions of faith change?” It then explores a series of questions like “Who made God?”, “If God is almighty, why is there so much suffering?”, and “Does God have a plan for me?”. Each chapter draws on engaging stories and examples to illustrate points, as well as summarizing relevant elements of Scripture, Church teaching, and contemporary philosophy and science. While primarily designed as a resource for teachers, the work could also be helpful in RCIA programs, faith formation programs for adults, and identity development programs for lay leaders in Catholic ministries.
What’s the Church All About? And Other Tricky Question about the Church
This sequel to Does God like being God? and Did Jesus have a Girlfriend? aims to help parents, teachers, and catechists answer the tricky questions that young people ask about Church.
What’s Church All About? explores the real questions that young people ask, including their negative and sometimes irreverent questions. It also provides four supplementary chapters based on advanced questions for adults and a vision for the Church of the future. It uses real stories to flesh out the intentions of Scripture and Church teaching, drawing also on contemporary culture and learning and avoiding Church-talk that means nothing to young people, to make the Church’s hidden treasures accessible.
