Catholic Connections Prayer | Teacher Guide

In these chapters, the students will explore prayer and its place in their own lives and the life of the Church.Prayer is presented as a conversation with God. Defined this way, prayer becomes an accessible form of communication rather than a challenging requirement of the faith. The students will learn that, just as with any relationship, their relationship with God requires being tuned in and in touch.The five forms of prayer (blessing, praise, thanksgiving, intercession, and petition) will be taught as ways of speaking to God. The second part of this unit focuses on the Lord’s Prayer, which is the quintessential prayer of the Church and the prayer that Jesus himself taught us.The Lord’s Prayer has been unchanged in two thousand years. Despite variations in the way the prayer is translated, when we pray it today we are praying to God our Father in the same way the disciples did.The students will learn why this prayer is called the “perfect prayer,” and the meaning of each of the seven petitions.
